Top 100 baby names in Ireland (2005)

There were 61,042 births registered in 2005 (31,369 boys and 29,673 girls) in Ireland with 642 less then in 2004.

Emma was the most popular girl name for the third year in a row, while Jack returns to the top position it last held in 2002, replacing the most popular boys' name of 2003 and 2004(Sean). There were 931 boys named Jack in 2005, 38 more than the number of boys named Sean. There were 703 girls named Emma, 61 more than Sarah, the second most popular girls' name.

Exactly the same boys' names (Jack, Sean, James, Conor, Adam) have been in the top five since '98, with only their order changing from year to year, but there has been more changes in girls' names: Emma, Sarah and Aoife have been in the top five since 1998, Katie has only been in the top five since 2003, and Amy has only been in the top 5 since 2004.
