Parents in England and Wales are more adventurous when choosing names for their baby girls. There is far more variety in the names given to girls, and girls' names move up and down in popularity more frequently than boys' names. Jack, Joshua and Thomas continue to be the most popular boy's names, following the trend of previous years.

In 2005 Jessica has climbed two places to the number one spot, overtaking Emily, 2004's top name. Other notable climbers are: Keira (jumping 13 places Evie (+10 places), Eva (+32 places), Ava (+65 places) and Leo (+ 20 places).
